O tempo passou e a música dominou a vida do jovem.

-(Risos).

-Flamengo e Corinthians … as duas maiores! Mas sempre vejo mais a do Flamengo (risos).

Wolves eye Loren Moron swoop

When Raul Jimenez went off against Arsenal there will have been mixed emotions among supporters at Wolves.

Of course, losing their star striker was a huge blow, but they could take solace from the fact that they had a £35.6m replacement waiting in the wings.

Unfortunately for Fabio Silva, he hasn’t lived up to expectation. Fosun may have spent their funds on potential here, but considering his goal tally of just one all season, it’s difficult to suggest that it was money well spent.

Nuno Santo’s men have had a torrid few months, winning just two of their last nine outings since Jimenez got injured. They have even recalled Patrick Cutrone, something that elevates their desperate nature at this moment in time.

It looked as though Wolves would use the January transfer market to strengthen but the longer things go on, the more it looks as though Cutrone will be their sole answer.

The likes of Olivier Giroud, Divock Origi and Diego Costa have all been linked, but one of the most expensive options this month was Loren Moron.

Reports from Spain towards the end of last year claimed that Wolves were interested in the Real Betis forward who currently has a release clause of €50m (£43m).

Wolves may have been able to get him for less, but the fact of the matter is that Jeff Shi is on course for a big mistake if he brings Moron to Molineux.

The 27-year-old was top scorer in La Liga for several weeks last season and ended the campaign on ten strikes. Yet, he has been nothing short of disastrous this term – scoring one goal from 12 outings.

It would appear that Moron was a one-season wonder for Betis and if they were ever going to get a huge sum of money for the Spaniard, that time has surely passed.

After all, the last thing Wolves need is another striker who struggles to find the back of the net. Silva may have only bagged on a solitary occasion himself but he’s finding himself in better positions to score.

Moron has registered 1.1 shots per match this season compared to Silva’s 1.4 in England. Most worryingly, though, is that he’s even worse than Wolves loanee Rafa Mir.

The struggling forward has managed just a solitary start since signing for Nuno’s men but has three goals in La Liga this term on loan at Huesca. On top of that, he also manages a mighty 2.2 shots a game on average.

The duo also have similar play styles. With just two inches between them in height, they both use their relatively tall frames to win aerial battles. Yet, their pass success rates this season have been abysmal.

Moron has difficulties bringing others into play which means he wouldn’t suit Wolves’ fast-flowing counter-attacking style very well at all. In the Spanish top-flight, he’s succeeded with just 62.8% of his passes this term. Mir, meanwhile, is even worse at 61.8%.

In Jimenez’s absence, Wolves need a striker who can make things stick up top. Moron clearly isn’t that type of player and neither can he find the net with great regularity.

As such, it would be a massive mistake for Shi to invest in the Betis striker.

AND in other news, Shi can seal Wolves’ best signing since Jimenez with £16.9m gem once dubbed “ruthless”…

Stuart Armstrong can be the key to unlocking West Ham’s defence on Tuesday

Southampton will be looking to bounce back after their Boxing Day draw with Fulham by picking up all three points when they face West Ham at St Mary’s on Tuesday.

A win will see the Saints keep pressure on the top four after what has been an excellent start to the season for the South Coast club, although they will be without usual goal threat Danny Ings for the game against David Moyes’ side.

Therefore, Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side will be reliant on other players to break the deadlock against the Hammers, and right-midfielder Stuart Armstrong could be the man to expose a weakness in the West Ham side.

Moyes’s side will be without usual left-back Arthur Masuaku, as he is still recovering from the knee injury that has kept him out for much of December.

The DR Congo international has been one of the Hammers’ best performers in the top-flight so far this season, averaging a strong 6.87 rating, so he will be a big miss for the London club.

With Aaron Cresswell having been deployed at centre-back for much of the season, Moyes is without any sort of senior back-up to Masuaku at left-back, with 20-year-old Ben Johnson featuring as a left wing-back in their 2-2 draw against Brighton recently.

Whilst he scored in that game, the fact he is a natural right-back suggests that he could be someone that Hasenhuttl should target, as he is inexperienced and playing out of position.

Therefore, if he plays there again on Tuesday, Armstrong could well be the man to take advantage, as if he can get into one-on-one situations with the youngster and get the better of him, it’s likely to create chances for the Southampton forwards.

Back in 2017 Brendan Rodgers was full of praise for the Scottish international, who reportedly earns £50,000-a-week at St Mary’s, during his time at Celtic, saying:

“To play at the highest level, you want to be effective. You want a midfielder who has a high level of technique, has mobility to run and be physical — and Stuart has all of that.

“He has big, big qualities that can really set him up in the game. He’s improving all the time.”

Therefore, if Johnson features as a left-back again on Tuesday, then it would not be a surprise to see Armstrong have a real impact on the game against the Hammers.

And, in other news… Southampton must seal deal for 6 foot 4 monster amid Vestergaard setback…

Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves could become a headache

Nuno Santo never usually has too many selection dilemmas.

After all, this is a man who in 166 of his 168 Wolves matches, has stuck with a formation that sees three centre-backs operate.

Furthermore, he is used to working with a small squad.

In each of the last two seasons, his side used the fewest number of players in the entire Premier League – 21. It’s a similar story this term too, with the Old Gold utilising just 20 players – the third-fewest of any top-flight team.

So, why after all this time, does he finally have a big problem in his squad? Well, that’s because he’s suddenly changed the formation, deviating away from his tried and trusted three or five at the back system.

Against Southampton, Nuno moved to four defenders and after drawing with the Saints, he used the same formation versus Arsenal. The result this time was a win, and they did it without one of their star players – Ruben Neves.

The Portuguese started against the Saints but at the Emirates Stadium, Nuno proved that he doesn’t necessarily need Neves in his side. Against one of the better teams in the division, it was impressive, but it’s also brought about an issue. How does he get back into the starting XI?

Of course, the midfielder is a class above, described as someone who “blew everybody’s mind,” when he first arrived in English football.

Though, with Daniel Podence’s performance in a number 10 role against Arsenal, it’s meant that playing three deeper midfielders of Neves, Dendoncker and Moutinho like there was against Southampton isn’t needed.

Podence was electrifying as he found the back of the net and performed four dribbles, tormenting the Gunners backline. Dropping him, therefore, would be a controversial decision.

It’s also tough to drop Dendoncker. He hit the woodwork in north London and dominated the middle of the park by winning five aerial duels.

Consequently, it’s difficult to see how Neves works his way back into the team.

The £45m-rated star has usually been one of the first names on the team sheet but now he’ll have to work hard to guarantee his place.

This could become a real headache for Nuno.

Ralph Hasenhuttl handed huge boost as Stuart Armstrong signs new deal

Ralph Hasenhuttl was handed a huge boost at Southampton on New Years’ Day as Stuart Armstrong committed to a new contract with the club, signing until 2024.

The Scottish international, who signed from Celtic in 2018, has established himself as a key part of the Southampton squad in recent years, having made 79 appearances, in which he has contributed 11 goals and seven assists.

The 28-year-old has been especially impressive so far this season for the South Coast club, having contributed two goals and two assists in 13 top-flight appearances, which has seen him average a solid 6.83 rating, which is comfortably better than the ratings he has posted with the Saints in the previous two seasons.

Whilst this season has seen Armstrong mainly feature as a right-winger, his versatility is also no doubt appreciated by Hasenhuttl, as he has played across the midfield and on either wing in his career thus far.

The Scottish winger has also taken the fifth-most shots in the Premier League for the Saints this season, which emphasises that he is an important player in this Southampton side from an attacking point of view.

Whilst the 28-year-old has never really rediscovered the sort of attacking output he showed during his time at Celtic, as he managed 15 goals and seven assists in 31 games in the 2016/17 season, he is showing signs of improvement with the South Coast club this season, which is something consistent with a lot of players this season, as the Saints currently sit just three points off the top four spots.

During his time with the Bhoys, manager Brendan Rodgers was full of praise for the midfielder, saying:

“The one player who stood out above them all was Stuart Armstrong.“Technically he has everything. He’s strong. I wasn’t sure tactically how he was but he looked like he had an idea. Physically he has everything: he’s fast, he’s strong, he’s powerful.”Therefore, it can only be good news that Armstrong has committed his long-term future to the club and hopefully he will continue to impress in Hasenhuttl’s side this season. And, in other news, Hasenhuttl must axe Saints flop who’s stealing a wage in January amid manager admission…

Marseille offered West Ham an easy chance to sign Duje Caleta-Car this summer

West Ham United endured a calamity in the transfer market this summer by failing to sign Duje Caleta-Car after being offered the defender in an easy deal by Olympique de Marseille.

What’s the word?

According to L’Equipe, via Sport Witness, Marseille’s Director of Football Pablo Longoria had sought to offload Caleta-Car late in the market after being ordered to sell a string of the Ligue 1 side’s players.

West Ham are believed to have been contacted to sound out interest in the 24-year-old centre-half but were unable to put together a convincing offer in time, as Caleta-Car favoured continuing at the Stade Velodrome to live out his dream of competing in the Champions League.

That dream has quickly turned into a nightmare with Andre Villas-Boas’ Marseille side winless after three Group Stage ties, featuring a 1-0 loss at Olympiacos, a 3-0 drubbing at home to Manchester City and a 3-0 thrashing away to FC Porto.

Marseille have only begun to turn around their league form in recent weeks, too, with OM sitting fifth in the Ligue 1 table having allowed the fourth-most shots a game in the French top-flight at 14.6.

Caleta-Car could have signed a vastly lucrative deal had he agreed to join West Ham this summer, with The Sun reporting in October that the Irons were willing to pay Marseille £25million and award the Croatia international a £150,000-per-week contract.

The 8-cap enforcer later confirmed he had received a well-paid offer this summer, noting via quotes by TransferMarkt: “Yes, I had offers from Premier League clubs. It was a good offer for the club and me.

“I decided to stay in the Champions League because it was always the biggest dream of my life.”

Worth a second attempt?

With Marseille’s Champions League campaign quickly crumbling into pieces, and a Europa League berth reliant on Villas-Boas bettering Olympiacos’ points haul over their next three fixtures, Caleta-Car could reconsider his future at the Stade Velodrome in the New Year.

Reports by Buzz Sport have suggested the OM hierarchy remain open to cashing-in on the Croatian, too, with Longoria already considering Nikola Maksimovic as a potential replacement with his SSC Napoli contract expiring in the summer.

But Caleta-Car could take some convincing of a move to east London with David Moyes’ Hammers far from challenging for the Champions League places this season, so may need to rely on a lucrative contract once more after presenting a deal that would have made the 23-year-old the best-paid player in claret and blue by some margin.

Caleta-Car’s performances in Ligue 1 this term as Marseille’s left-sided centre-half offer enough promise for West Ham that he can make a success of himself in the Premier League, having averaged 2.5 aerial duels won a game with a 74% success rate, per SofaScore, plus 4.4 clearances, 1.1 interceptions, 0.8 tackles and 34.3 accurate passes (82%).

AND in other news, David Moyes has been backed to bring the “perfect” £10m bonus to West Ham in January.

Newcastle United: Craig Hope reveals Mike Ashley insight amid BN Group’s takeover bid

Craig Hope has revealed some insight into Mike Ashley amid the Bellagraph Nova (BN) Group’s bid to take over Newcastle United.

As per the journalist’s tweet, he claimed:

“I’m told Mike Ashley will only negotiate with proposed buyers once his lawyers inform him they are genuine, meaning no contact yet with Singapore group who submitted £280 million offer. I’ve seen docs of bid, but there is caution given it’s also easy publicity.”

Indeed, as Hope confirms, the chief executive of Sports Direct will only negotiate with the consortium, which consists of the businesswoman Evangeline Shen as well as the Singaporean cousins Terence and Nelson Loh, once his own lawyers inform them that they are genuinely looking to buy the Tyneside club.

He also wrote a piece on it for the Daily Mail, the London-based Denton, who are representing Ashley, are acting as a filter for all of those expressing an interest in buying the Magpies, including the BN Group, who have lodged their own £280 million bid.

However, the current owner of the Toon and his trusted right-hand man Justin Barnes will only get involved if Dentons advise that their bid is serious and that the BN Group have the financial backing to complete a possible deal.

Ashley has not yet had any contact with the Singapore group after they submitted their offer, and this may well continue unless his lawyers deem it right to intervene.

However, the offer falls short of the £300 million that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabian (KSA) consortium offered to him originally, and so Ashley would likely reject the bid anyway.

Nevertheless, Hope has given some pretty important details within the deal, and for it to develop it may well be that the buying side will have to up their bid in order for them to be taken seriously by the lawyers.

Manchester United: Fans slam Emre Can and Marco Reus as they try to stop Jadon Sancho from leaving

Manchester United are reportedly leading the race to sign Jadon Sancho in the summer.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made it clear Sancho is the signing he needs needs to rebuild the Red Devils. Recent reports suggested the Red Devils have entered ‘advanced’ talks with Borussia Dortmund to sort out a transfer.

However, Man United won’t have it easy, as Emre Can and Marco Reus are doing everything they possibly can to try and disrupt the deal.

According to Christian Falk, as per @utdreport, the Dortmund duo are trying to convince Sancho to stay at the Signal Iduna Park.

Sancho has made it clear he wants to return to England and play in the Premier League next season.

Speaking to Mark Goldbridge via The United Stand, the journalist admitted Dortmund have a “big community” and everyone is pulling together to try to persuade him to change his mind.

However, this seems to be a tad hypocritical from Can in particular, who has changed teams several times throughout his career so far.

Naturally, many United fans slammed the “shameless” pair on social media, with one fan labelling Can as a “Premier League reject” for leaving Liverpool, while another bizarrely branded the two stars as “trash,” which seems a bit too harsh considering their track records. Reus is the club’s third-highest goalscorer this season.
