Swansea fans want to see more of Luciano Narsingh

[ad_pod ]

Luciano Narsingh made his first Swansea City appearance of the season in their 2-1 defeat at Leeds United in the Championship on Wednesday night.

A 2017 arrival from PSV Eindhoven, Narsingh scored once in 18 Premier League appearances for Swansea during the 2017-18 campaign.

The 28-year-old has not been in the plans of Swansea boss Graham Potter this season, but he did appear as a second-half substitute against Leeds.

There is absolutely no question that the winger – a 16-time Netherlands international – has a lot of talent and Swansea need to find a way to get him fit and firing for the final months of the campaign.

It is safe to say that the Swansea fans were delighted to see Narsingh back in action on Wednesday night.

And a number have called on head coach Potter to hand the attacker more minutes between now and the end of the season.

A selection of the Twitter reaction from the club’s fans can be seen below:

Norwich City get a wake-up call with Preston North End drubbing

The unpredictability of the EFL Championship struck Norwich City on Wednesday night, with Daniel Farke’s men falling to an embarrassing loss to Preston North End.

Going into the game unbeaten in five, it seemed that over-confidence resulted in the poor result.

Norwich were stunned in the 2nd minute itself when poor set-piece defending allowed Ben Davies to score the opener. The Canaries might’ve had the lion’s share of possession, but just weren’t their clinical self on the day. Preston added another later with Paul Gallagher’s penalty and when the reliable Marco Stiepermann had his penalty saved after the half-hour mark, it dawned on Norwich that it just wasn’t their day.

Preston added another one in the second half thanks to Sean Maguire’s effort and Teemu Pukki’s stoppage-time goal only served as a consolation. The Canaries conceded five in their last five games before this, but complacency and complete lack of concentration triggered their downfall.

The hosts were just too mobile on the attack and caught them off-guard on multiple occasions. While Pukki tried his best and had multiple shots saved, even he couldn’t save them. Norwich’s inexperience in defence was exposed, with Jamal Lewis and Max Aarons both disappointing along with the poor Tom Trybull failing to shield their defence in the first half.

With Leeds United once again getting the edge over them to the top of the table, this sorry defeat poses as a reality check for high-flying Norwich, who need to maintain composure to prevail in the Championship race.

Garry Monk needs to be given patience at Sheffield Wednesday

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Opinion series, which provides analysis, insight and opinion on any issue within the beautiful game, from Paul Pogba’s haircuts to League Two relegation battles…

Sheffield Wednesday’s season hangs in the mire because of decisions made off the pitch.

The Owls are competing in and around the Championship playoffs with the division being so fiercely competitive this campaign – less than a handful of points separate third place to the bottom half.

But the club is severely in jeopardy with so much uncertainty staring them right in the face.

The Engish Football League charged the south Yorkshire side with financial misconduct following the sale of Hillsborough stadium to owner Dejphon Chansiri.

Although no punishment has been set, probably a further cause of panic, many things have been speculated.

The Thai businessman, along with several other members of the Owls hierarchy, are facing permanent bans from football while the team could be deducted a whopping 21 points as a result.

Until a decision is met, the players and management team can only keep ticking on the pitch, which they appear to be doing.

It also must be considered that Monk inherited the whole squad from his predecessors, Steve Bruce, who departed the club for Newcastle United in the summer, and caretaker boss Lee Bullen, who steered the ship at the start of the season.

Not one of the players in the squad was signed by the 40-year-old.

January presents one good opportunity to begin that process, but it is likely the summer that brings about the most fruitful spell of his tenure.

Over ten first-team players are out of contract at the end of the season while it is an Owls side that is desperately ageing given they are the oldest in the division.

Ultimately, Monk will need two or three transfer windows or even years to fully stamp his authority down at Hillsborough.

Therefore, the one thing he needs the most to bring success is patience. His start at the club has been positive, but it’ll take plenty of time for him – or any manager for that matter – to make his mark.

Patience is the key.

Everton boss Ancelotti may have been convinced to sign Djibril Sidibe permanently

New Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti would have been looking on wondering what he had to work with as he was among the Goodison Park crowd for the goalless draw against Arsenal on Saturday.

In all honesty there wasn’t a great deal of quality on show from either team on Merseyside, and the Italian will be under no illusions to the hard work ahead as he looks to make the Toffees a contender for the top six or even the top four in the Premier League during his reign.

One player who surely would have caught his eye at the weekend was a player who doesn’t even belong to Everton – yet, anyway.

Duncan Ferguson restored Djibril Sidibe to the starting line-up at right-back fter he missed the draws against Manchester United and Leicester City through illness, with Seamus Coleman dropping to the substitutes’ bench.

That was a big call considering the Republic of Ireland international is club skipper, but it was also not too surprising given the Monaco man had provided three assists in his previous five top flight appearances before being ruled out.

He impressed again against the Gunners at both ends of the pitch too, helping the defence keep a clean sheet while also trying to make a difference in the final third for the Merseysiders.

According to WhoScored, the 27-year-old had 85 touches of the ball – 18 more than his nearest Everton teammate – while he made three tackles and six interceptions.

That is exactly the type of defensive stats Ancelotti will want to see from his full-back, with a report in The Liverpool Echo suggesting he likes one to stay back if the other is attacking in a 4-4-2 formation – Lucas Digne of course is on the other flank.

From an attacking point of view he did his best too, successfully completing four dribbles and making four crosses, although only one of them was accurate.

Still, he was clearly getting in the right positions and showed that he has the ability to be a big player for the Toffees and Ancelotti in the future.

Everton signed the Frenchman on a season-long loan with an option to buy in August, and while he may have taken some time to get going having failed to feature in the Premier League until October, there is no doubt that he is really beginning to get into the groove and show why he has 18 caps for the current world champions.

Liverpool fans laud Chris Wilder following his glowing post-match comments

Liverpool were in exceptional form once again earlier this week as they dispatched of Sheffield United by two goals to nil.

The Blades arrived at Anfield with a glowing reputation having picked up positive results against Chelsea, Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal all the while sticking to the tactical principles they deployed in the Championship last season.

But the Reds were simply too good for the visitors and deservedly claimed their 19th league victory of the season, leaving Chris Wilder in awe of 2020’s likely Premier League title winners.

In the aftermath of proceedings the 52-year-old manager had this to say about his opponent.

“They won every first ball, every second ball, ran forward and ran back!

“They had the humility and desire to do that as world champions.

“I love everything about them!”

It is rare that a manager delivers such a glowing verdict on the opposition and the fact Wilder felt obliged to heap praise on Liverpool speaks volumes about how impressive they have been this season.

And, rather unsurprisingly, feelings of appreciation were reciprocated by the Liverpool supporters on Twitter as they turned out in their numbers to claim he was spot on in his verdict.

Wilder is an old-school manager who has never shied away from saying what he thinks in-front of the British media, and it seems that attitude has endeared him to the Anfield faithful.

And one fan simply couldn’t resist having a pop at Pep Guardiola by suggesting he’d never be so effusive in his praise for Man City’s major Premier League rival.

Finally, one fan paid him one of the highest possible compliments as he suggested he should be the next England manager, while another suggested he’d be manager of the season if it wasn’t for Klopp’s achievements at Liverpool.

Southampton fans loved the club’s tweet ahead of Leicester clash this weekend

Southampton fans have taken to Twitter following the club’s tweet regarding the 0-9 defeat to Leicester earlier this season, and it’s safe to say that they found the funny side of it.

The Saints’ official account posted a video of them muting certain words on Twitter, where they then added ‘0-9’, ‘nine’, ‘haha nine’, ‘hahahahahahaha nine’ and ‘9-0’ to the list of phrases they don’t want to view prior to the trip to the King Power Stadium this weekend.

As you’ll probably remember, Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men suffered the joint-largest defeat in Premier League history back in October when Brendan Rodgers’ side recorded a 0-9 win over them at St Mary’s.

In anticipation of that scoreline being mentioned this week, Southampton’s official Twitter account ensured that they won’t be seeing any related words in the build-up to this weekend’s game in hilarious fashion.

In addition to that, the words ‘Pompey’, ‘Portsmouth’ and ‘Welcome to Liverpool’ were also found amongst the club’s muted words to add further hilarity to the tweet – the latter phrase relating to the fact that Jurgen Klopp’s side have pinched the likes of Dejan Lovren, Nathaniel Clyne, Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert and Sadio Mane from them in the past.

Let’s see how the Southampton fans on Twitter reacted to the funny post…

This supporter said that they “laughed so hard” at the club’s post, while also branding it as a “class tweet”.

These two fans also expressed their adoration over the Saints’ creative Twitter post, with Jonathan calling it “brilliant” while Caroline said “love this” – it seems the tweet went down extremely well.

Additionally, a couple more superlatives were sprinkled on Southampton’s tweet with Kirsty describing it as “class” – another went as far as calling it “genius”.

Lastly, the enjoyment of the tweet was rounded off by ‘Geyser’, who said that it was simply “perfection”.

Sunderland fans respond to Billy Sharp rumours

Sunderland’s hopes of promotion under Phil Parkinson have been slim since he arrived at the Stadium of Light.

The former Bolton boss has led his side to just four wins in 17 matches, scoring 20 goals in the process.

It’s a record that sees the Black Cats sit in ninth place, rather than towards the top of the table where they’d favour. Remarkably, they sit just a point off the playoffs but they are in dire need of adding extra firepower to their ranks.

Chris Maguire is still their top scorer with seven but the likes of Charlie Wyke and Will Grigg have three strikes between them.

It’s no surprise, therefore, that links to Sheffield United’s Billy Sharp has got some fans excited.

The 33-year-old has 104 League One goals throughout his career, while making the division’s Team of the Year on three separate occasions.

As far as signings go, this could be vital. He has a wonderful record at this level and could add a considerable threat to a side who are missing something in the final third.

However, some Sunderland fans failed to get excited by the move on Twitter, instead deciding to play down the chances of him arriving at the Stadium of the Light in January.

The Premier League striker has already been touted with a move to Leeds so to think he’d move down two divisions seems far fetched, especially when he faces interest from teams of greater quality.

Murmurs of a potential switch to the north-east originated in The Chronicle on Thursday evening as they suggested the Mackems were monitoring his situation.

Parkinson even commented on the situation in his press conference but acknowledged they are also in the hunt for Liam Boyce and Kyle Lafferty.

Bringing in someone from the Premier League would drastically improve Sunderland’s chances of promotion. Such is Sharp’s record at this level that a move would be quite the coup.

Whether it does happen, however, only time will tell.

Meanwhile, Sunderland are in the market for a player who could prove to be another disruptive influence…

Sunderland should depart with Marc McNulty amid League Two interest

According to journalist Alan Nixon, Marc McNulty is a target for Swindon Town, which means Sunderland may have a decision to make in regards to his future.

What’s the word?

The on-loan Reading striker has played a back-up role for much of his time at the Stadium of Light and the Robins view him as a possible signing.

Swindon are in need of a forward as top scorer Eoin Doyle was recalled by Bradford earlier this month, though their ability to sign the 27-year-old may rest on the actions of the Black Cats.

Nixon asserts that Sunderland would have to agree to let him leave, and considering they have signed Kyle Lafferty and targeted Liam Boyce, it is possible that they are preparing for his exit.

Let him go

One of the biggest factors in Sunderland’s underperformance this season has been the lacklustre efforts from their strikers.

Charlie Wyke’s return to the side has led to an upturn in form with six games unbeaten, but Will Grigg and Marc McNulty have just three league goals between them, so the need for new personnel is clear.

Call yourself a Premier League expert? How much did each of these big-money January signings cost?

McNulty has been a bit of a disaster considering he has made just 12 starts, with four coming under Phil Parkinson, and therefore it would be best for both parties if his temporary spell in the north-east was cut short.

Sunderland would be able to save on his wages and put the money towards a player like Boyce, and with Lafferty potentially better suited to a lone role, having played in such a way for Northern Ireland for several years, he is more adept to the Black Cats’ style of play.

Refreshing the attack could be vital to the team in the second half of the campaign and it would perhaps add variety to the north-east outfit.

Boyce, for example, has 13 goals this season and in a Sunderland attack that suddenly looks rejuvenated with ten goals in five outings, he may be able to flourish at the Stadium of Light.

Elsewhere, Sunderland fans have been discussing a key figure at the club, but their opinions on the individual could be a surprise.

Everton: Fans not impressed with Jordan Pickford save during West Ham draw

Everton fans criticised goalkeeper Jordan Pickford during his side’s 1-1 draw against West Ham United on Saturday after a save he pulled off during the 90 minutes.

The 25-year-old was forced into action just before half-time after he kept out Pablo Fornals’ header from close range with a flying fist which sent the ball over the top of the crossbar. The Toffees were forced to share the spoils on the day having gone behind from Issa Diop’s opener from a free-kick but fought back three minutes later through a Dominic Calvert-Lewin header from Lucas Digne’s corner.

The Sunderland-born shot-stopper described his own save as a “worldy”, as per talkSPORT, as he was proud of himself for what he had pulled off during the game. Despite this, segments of the Gwladys Street faithful were not impressed and made their feelings clear on social media. One fan said that a top goalkeeper would have caught it, while another said that he “made an absolute meal of it”.

Tottenham: Fans react as Wout Weghorst becomes the latest transfer link

Loads of Spurs fans have been reacting to a surprising transfer link, as Wolfsburg target man Wout Weghorst is reportedly one of the candidates to replace the injured Harry Kane.

Tottenham are absolutely crying out for a recognised centre-forward, and never has that been more evident than during their FA Cup clash with Southampton on Saturday afternoon. The Lilywhites took the lead through Son Heung-min, but they could have been two or three up by that point, and a late equaliser from Sofiane Boufal means they will now have to entertain a replay.

Kane is expected to be out for at least a few months after undergoing surgery to repair his hamstring, and according to Bild journalist Christian Falk, via @RickSpur, the club have identified several Bundeslgia strikers who could solve their current predicament.

Weghorst, Paco Alcácer, Mario Götze and Timo Werner are all on the list of possible arrivals, and plenty of fans were drawn to the Wolfsburg man’s name, perhaps due to the fact that he is 6 foot 6, seemingly a perfect fit for the type of striker Jose Mourinho would want.

The towering Dutch international has posted impressive goalscoring numbers at every club he has played for, racking up 119 goals in 281 senior matches, per Transfermarkt. Take a look at some of the best Twitter reactions down below…
